About the artist

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1947, Gerri Johnson-McMillin has been creating art since early childhood. She loved the fiber arts, crocheting, sewing, needlepoint. She took her first basketry class in 1972. While her main interest is basketry, she enjoys weaving, spinning, and knotting.

The love of the ocean and what’s beneath plays an influential part in Gerri’s art. She is known for her Fishbone Vessels and Knotted Fiber Sculptures. Gerri is a national and international exhibiting artist and has her artwork in the permanent collections of the Long Beach Museum of Art and the Museum of Ventura County.

Since 1999 Gerri has been an Artist-in-Residence at Studio Channel Islands Art Center in Camarillo, CA and in 2006 was President of SCIART. She was instrumental in developing the Fiber Art Studio at the Center.
